Troubleshooting Your TE-5000

Power Outage Issue:

If your unit has lost power, we recommend restarting it. Simply turn off the switch located at the back of the unit and keep it off for 15 seconds. Then, turn it back on. If the issue persists, try plugging the unit into a different outlet or in a different room. Sometimes, the problem lies with the outlet itself rather than the unit. If none of these steps resolve the issue, please contact our Client Experience Team: service@onsitewaste.com.

Lid Won’t Open:

If you’re having trouble opening the lid, here are some steps you can try. First, please push down on the lid with a firm amount of pressure. Afterward, select the waste type again to see if it opens. Alternatively, you can try the three-button trick: simultaneously hold down the start, sharps, and red bag buttons. If, despite these attempts, the lid remains stubbornly closed, please contact us for further support: service@onsitewaste.com.

Container Stuck in Unit:

If you’re having trouble removing the container, first try wiggling it gently to see if anything is sticking, such as the biowaste sticker. If you manage to partially remove the container, please check inside the unit chamber to see if there’s anything it could be sticking to, such as melted material on the bottom or side. Sometimes, the container may require some time to cool down before it can be easily wiggled out. We recommend waiting for 24 hours and then attempting to remove the container again. If you are able to get the container out, clean the inside of the chamber with a non-abrasive cleaner and a scrubbing pad, before the using the unit again. If the container remains stuck, please contact us for further support: service@onsitewaste.com.

“Network Error” Displayed:

If your unit is displaying a “Network Error” message, it means it’s not connecting to the commercial Verizon network. We advise restarting the unit and checking again after approximately one hour. If the error message persists, try placing it in a different location. Should the message remain after relocating the unit, please contact us for further support: service@onsitewaste.com.

Odor Coming from the Unit:

If you notice an odor emanating from the unit, we suggest considering the delayed start feature and see if you can relocate it to another room. Additionally, it’s important to evaluate the type of waste you are placing in the unit. If the waste is normal RMW and the delayed start feature doesn’t help, please reach out to us, for further support. If you are placing medications in the unit, kindly remember to follow compliant waste segregation practices on our Waste Acceptance Policy (let’s provide the link here). Our units are specifically designed for processing sharps and red bag waste items, such as syringes, gauze, and empty vials.

Missing or Broken Pieces:

In the rare case that something is broken on your TE-5000, please contact us immediately: service@onsitewaste.com or (949) 490-1350.

Best Practices for Collection

Your TE-5000 is designed to decrease your waste volume and in some cases, completely eliminate your need for medical waste storage entirely.

Here are some things team members can do to continue optimizing your medical waste workflow:

  • Keep your TE-5000 plugged in at all times. This allows for our servers to stay in contact with the machine and ensure it is up to date and running smoothly
  • Do not include excessive liquid in your containers, nothing over 4oz or about 118cc’s
Keep your TE-5000 in a biohazard room or closet, similar to where you are currently storing medical waste
  • Do not remove the lid following the sterilization process. Check to ensure the sticker on the container is blacked out and throw the entire container into the trash
  • Following the sterilization process, the container and its contents are no longer medical waste and are no longer required to be stored or hauled. Place the tin in your regular trash following it’s sterilization cycle

Assembling Your Tin Collection Containers

Your tin collection containers are not only designed for on-site sterilization with the TE-5000, but also to fit seamlessly into your current workflow.

To maximize the benefits of our solutions, these collection tins should replace all of your sharps and red bags whenever possible. For your convenience, containers replenish automatically. OnSite will send you new containers when we see you are getting low. Containers and lids arrive together and are easy to assemble.

Ensure that the clear plastic is flush with the black lid liner before you begin assembling.

The first step is to take the tin collection container and place it on a stable surface, such as a counter. Next, grab the appropriate container lid.

Ensure that the lid can spin freely. Press the lid down onto the tin collection container. You will notice that there are 6 notches all around the top of the container, ensure that they have snapped in properly and that the lid is completely secured. For spinner lids, make sure that the spinner can spin freely. For rocker lids, ensure that the flap opens entirely.

Now you’re ready to begin collecting and treating waste!

Customizing the Delayed Start Feature For Your Practice

The TE-5000 includes several smart features for your convenience. One popular feature is the “Delayed Start”. When beginning a cycle, your TE-5000 automatically schedules the treatment for 8PM that evening. You can customize your automatic start time by contacting OnSite. The average cycle time is 3 hours so we recommend picking a time outside of your operating hours.

You can also start the sterilization process immediately by pressing “Start”.

Safety Features of Your TE-5000

Several important safety features designed to keep users and practices safe are built into the TE-5000.

Some of the important safety features of your TE-5000 are:

  • Your TE-5000 has a locking feature that remains enabled throughout it’s sterilization cycles. Once a cycle has begun, the lid will remain locked until the cycle is complete.
  • Your TE-5000 uses heat to sterilize your medical waste. Temperatures are closely monitored throughout the sterilization process for both compliance and safety purposes. If the machine ever gets too hot, your TE-5000 will automatically shut off.
  • Following the sterilization cycle, your TE-5000 enters a cooling process before opening again. The container will never be too hot to take out once the machine has unlocked following a cycle.
  • A custom air filtration system is included in your TE-5000 to mitigate the fumes caused by the sterilization process.

Treating Waste With Your TE-5000

Treating your own medical waste is as easy as pushing a button.

The “ON” switch is located on the back of the machine. Flip the switch and give the machine about 30 seconds to power on and connect to our network. 30-60 seconds later, you will hear a beep and the screen will indicate that you are ready to start processing waste.

Grab the full container that is ready for sterilization and one of the locking lids. Press the lid firmly on top of the container, ensuring all 6 tabs are snapped in. Once the lid is locked in, it should not be opened again for safety and compliance purposes.

Next, select Sharps or Red Bag on the TE-5000, depending on the type of waste you are processing. You will hear the machine pop open. Insert your full container of Sharps or Red Bag waste into the machine.

Once you close the machine, it will not open again until the sterilization cycle is complete and the container is cooled down. The “Delayed Start” feature is activated automatically and the machine will run at 8pm. You can also customize your Delayed Start time by contacting OnSite. This is recommended for most practices.

If you’d like to run it immediately, simply push the “START” button and the cycle will begin.

Sterilization cycles typically last 3 hours. This is recommended for high volume practices.

Once the cycle is complete, the TE-5000 will automatically pop open. Pull the container out and ensure that the label has darkened. This means the waste has been successfully sterilized. This is also a great indicator to ensure that you are only throwing away containers that have been sterilized.

Now you can toss the full container, with the lid attached, in any regular trash can!*

*Some states may have additional requirements. Always familiarize yourself with all state and local regulations.

Setting Up Your TE-5000

Your TE-5000 is an industry-first solution, empowering you to sterilize and manage your own waste without having to rely on pickups and haulers. This revolutionary technology is easy to set up and integrate into your practice.

Before getting started, it’s important to find a space for your TE-5000 that makes sense for you and your team. Work with your team to find a place that is easily accessible but also won’t interrupt or interfere with current workflows. Any countertop that has a nearby outlet, a strong cell signal, and can support 50lbs will do. To fit into your current workflow, we recommend keeping your TE-5000 in the same place you are storing your medical waste today.

The TE-5000 uses the Verizon cell network to communicate. Generally, if you get cell service on your phone, your TE-5000 should be able to communicate properly. If you do run into communication issues, there is an ethernet port on the side of your TE-5000 that can be used.

Once your TE-5000 is in its place, plugged in, and connected to the internet, we recommend running an empty cycle to monitor connectivity and ensure the machine is running properly. Once the cycle is complete, you are ready to begin treating waste.
